Kean University Enrollment Reaches Record 23,000 Worldwide
The Kean University system welcomed about 23,000 students across its locations in New Jersey and worldwide for the Fall 2026 semester, marking an enrollment milestone amid years of transformative growth for the public university.
The record enrollment follows the historic merger of Kean with New Jersey City University in July that launched Kean Jersey City, the newest campus in Kean’s system.
“Our growth reflects Kean’s extraordinary momentum, and the confidence students and families are placing in our University,” said Kean President Lamont O. Repollet, Ed.D. “We are expanding access, opening doors to opportunity and strengthening our commitment to academic excellence and student success. The true measure of our growth is what it makes possible for the students and communities we serve.”
Kean’s enrollment reflects a University with greater reach than ever before, spanning the main campus in Union; Kean Jersey City; Kean Ocean in Toms River; Wenzhou-Kean University in Wenzhou, China; and Kean Global, the University’s growing online division.
The University received more than 23,500 applications for the academic year, reflecting continued strong interest in Kean among prospective students.
The Fall 2026 student body includes students from 41 states and 83 countries, broadening the geographic reach of the University following the University’s decision to offer in-state tuition rates to all students regardless of their residency.
“As Kean grows, our focus is on delivering a consistently high-quality academic experience across the entire University system,” said Michael Salvatore, Ph.D., executive vice president for academic and administrative operations. “We are aligning programs, resources and student support so every student has the tools and opportunities to succeed in the classroom and prepare for a meaningful career.”
The student body includes over 4,800 new students, including approximately 2,650 freshmen and 1,400 transfer students, as well as more than 800 graduate students.
The University recorded particularly strong growth in undergraduate enrollment for biological sciences, accounting and health and human performance for the Fall 2026 semester.
Kean’s enrollment growth comes as the University continues to strengthen academic programs and research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students. As a Carnegie-designated R2 research university, Kean provides students with opportunities to work alongside faculty on research with real-world impact.
